Athletics
Athletics is a fundamental movement skill that transfers across to all sporting activities. We promote the boys to participate in athletic events outside of school (Fanahan MCSweeney athletic club) and we also complete ‘Running a mile/miles activities’ in conjunction with the active schools initiative.
Every year after a series of trials we set up a school athletics team and have training sessions after school. We head to MTU in May for the Cork City schools sports - the biggest sporting event for primary kids in Europe.
We have had great success over the years and look forward to taking part every year.
There is also the North Cork school sports event that we host every four years with St. Pat’s Mallow, Charleville CBS & Bishop Murphy Fermoy.
The local rivalries make for an exciting day of sprints, relays and 400m races. It’s a fabulous tradition that lives on in North Cork for years.
Hopefully we will be able to organise a Cross Country event for the boys in the not too distant future. They may be an Olympian in the future!
