​Chess

Our school had a great tradition of playing chess over the years. Recently a number of teachers have completed the Ficheall Chess for Social Skills programme. This has really rejuvenated chess in our school. The programme teaches the rules/skills in a structured way, through playing mini-games. Accompanying each lesson is the exploration of a social skill e.g. the importance of teamwork or the importance of winning and losing appropriately. Eventually, when the boys have learned all the rules of chess, they play each other in small competitions. Our school also enters the national Ficheall interschool’s competition.
