The Flag for Global Citizenship awarded to CBS Primary.
CBS Primary have just received their seventh Green Flag.
The Flag was awarded for Global Citizenship - Energy.
Huge acknowledgement is due to all the boys for their hard work on this challenging project.
CBS Primary have made awareness of Green Schools and Climate Change an integral part of school life.
This is more important than ever today as we see our World Leaders meeting in Glasgow working on a new plan to tackle Climate Change.
We in the CBS love revising our action plan and outlining the the steps that we can all take in keeping our School Green;
Captain Clean - using bins properly and reducing out waste.
Eco Eric - reducing the amount of energy we use (hopefully a lot of homes are becoming more energy efficient)
Wally Water - Turning off the taps and fixing leaks.
Sgt. Strider - walking to school or to the shop - especially when the weather is fine.
Enviro-Man - Planting seeds and vegetables - growing our own food.
Padraig Planet - Not all kids are as lucky as we are - we want to send hope and love to those less fortunate
We have a proud record of Green School Initiatives in CBS Primary but we want everyone in our School Community to play a part.
Next up for us is Green Schools Marine - protecting our much loved oceans.
Thanks to everyone who thinks Green and acts Green.
All the staff of CBS Primary would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr O'Regan and MsKeane for the huge amount of work they put into achieving so many Green Flags for the school. Their hard work and dedication has been a source of inspiration for the whole school community.
Thank you!

CBS Primary Garden Project
Our garden project was begun when Mr Coffey and other staff members decided that it would be nice for our boys to do some outdoor work while learning about sowing seeds and tending to different types of plants.
Through this initiative the boys would learn what it takes to prepare the ground plant the seeds and care for them as they grow. Ultimately it might encourage them to start their own little garden at home.
Work began two weeks before Easter Break when staff set about ridding the area of weeds and and briars. Over the break five of our staff along with Pat Lambe, a grandparent to some of our pupils, and Brendan our caretaker, returned to clear the weeds, dig the soil and remove stones.

On returning to school the boys planted no less than 5 varieties of potatoes, the earliest of which should be ready for digging in June.
They also installed a Polytunnel and planted Rhubarb, Mint, Strawberries, Leek, Turnip, Parsley, Dill, Onions, Parsnips, Carrots and Cabbage!
Our plan is to harvest our various plants and cook a full, healthy meal in school, using the fruits of our labour.
If the crop is successful we may even consider selling to staff or parents to help develop the entrepreneurs of the future.
More of our pupils will be invited to enter a competition to make signs for the plants while Mr Quirke and his boys are busy making a Scarecrow to ward off hungry birds.
Everyone is welcome to come and view our garden to the rear of the CBS Primary Carpark.
Please do just look and respect the hard work the staff and pupils have put into this project.
