A "Thank You" message to our
School Community from the Parents Council

"Thank You to all of our Teachers and School Staff who have done an amazing job supporting our children during these unprecedented times.
Thank You to all of our Parents and Carers who have helped our boys with home school work etc., week on week.  Lastly, a big, big Thank You to our Boys for doing everything that has been asked of them from school work, to staying at home, away from family and friends and hardest of all, showing the world how brave they are at adapting to our world's new normals"

Blue-Bots Invade CBS Primary!

In an exciting new initiative, the CBS Primary Parent Council, have kindly facilitated the purchase of a set of 6 Blue-Bots for the school.

A Blue-Bot is a simple robot that can operate through manual pressing of its buttons or through programming using an iPad.
The package presents our pupils with a host of programming challenges, which the boys must solve, by constructing the correct programme.

Teachers can use Blue-Bot to help teach students logic and sequential thinking. They can challenge students, to see if they can get the Blue-Bots to go around a corner or some simple obstacle. Once they're comfortable, they can attempt obstacle courses of varying difficulties.
When the Blue-Bot doesn't move as a student expects, it affords him the opportunity  to "debug" and discover what went wrong.
As student commands get more complex,  simple note-taking to record what movements they've done, are an ideal introduction to programming and  ultimately coding.

Fun Run 2019

A beautiful evening on Thursday 12th September saw an excellent turn out for our annual Parent Council Fun Run.
Donal O’Regan ensured all participants were put through a thorough warm up prior to setting off. This was accompanied by some high energy Dance music by MC and Principal Mary O’Callaghan.

The participants ranged from strollers, to power-walkers, to seasoned runners! A spirit of fun and wellbeing however, was a common factor to all.
The route encompassed the Fermoy Road, Ballybeg, Brigown returning finally to CBS Primary.
Great attention was paid to ensuring our runners and walkers completed the circuit safely and so our Parent Council are very grateful to all who volunteered to steward the various points along the route and to the local Gardai, who were  at hand throughout the proceedings.
Many thanks also to those who were on hand to provide First Aid and to those who distributed refreshments afterwards.
To add to the fun element of the night prizes were awarded to children and adults alike.
The work of our Parent Council is integral to our school and we are indebted to them for the resources they have provided to our school over the years.
The proceeds of this particular Fun Run will go towards providing more equipment for our sensory room and subsiding Christmas outing for our pupils.

At C.B.S. Primary, we have an active, committed and hardworking Parent Council. The Committee is elected, annually, at the A.G.M., which takes place in October. There is usually, at least, one representative from each class. From the general committee, the officers of Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer, et al, are elected. You will be informed of your Parent Council names and contact numbers, in the newsletter following election. The Parent Council meet in the school on a monthly basis. Principal and / or Deputy Principal and / or Staff Rep. attend these meetings, as invited guests. Members of our Parent Council are on hand to help out with many school activities, concerts, celebrations etc.
Over the years, elected Parent Representatives have been an invaluable asset and support to our school. Their fundraising events (traditionally Annual Christmas Draw and Fashion Show), have made it possible for us to facilitate many opportunities for the boys. Recently, the Parent Council have run Bag Packing ventures, Table Quizzes, Cake Sales and Fun Run/Walk, to enhance their fundraising endeavours. They have helped furnish the school with laptops, interactive white boards, networking, sports equipment etc. and indeed, with the enhancement of all our school facilities.
Christmas 2009, Mandy Darcy, member of the Committee, co-ordinated the production of a Christmas Celebrate C.D., involving all pupils 1st – 6th. As well as a wonderful opportunity for the boys, funds raised paid for an upgrade of the path, between the Brothers and Convent Schools. The Council's contribution towards our Book Rental Scheme was considerable and rendered the whole project possible.
In the recent school years – your Parent Council fundraising has enabled us, along with DES grant aid, to fully equip each classroom with either a data projector, or interactive whiteboard and laptop. Their monies also equipped a dedicated computer room and storage space in the attic, per our 2011 building project. In addition, they have funded additional literacy / numeracy provisions, bus travel to numerous activities and speech and drama classes for the whole school, to name but a few initiatives.
In school year 2016/2017, monies from Parent Council ventures, provided new line markings on the playground, additional I-pads, sensor taps throughout the school, resources for Literacy Lift Off, amplification in halla, new Burco and funding for numerous opportunities for the boys.
Most importantly, however, the Parent Council here at C.B.S. Primary, represents partnership in education, on the ground. The members’ opinions and feedback from their monthly meetings, are crucial to the effective operation of our school. Throughout the year, their contributions inform our practice. In partnership, we review our School Plan structures and daily procedures. Parent Representatives on the Council, have an invaluable liaising role. Their input into whole school development has been and continues to be, huge.
